Church Picnic

St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue, will hold a church picnic on Sept. 7 at Memorial Park. The day will begin with the morning worship service with Holy Communion at 11 a.m. There will be no radio broadcasting of the service on this day.The planned menu will be fried chicken, hot dogs, barbecue, beverages and ice cream provided. Those planning to attend should sign up by Sunday.There will be bingo, cake sale, games for the children and pony rides.Each family is asked to bring a covered dish to share with others, and if possible, a prize or two for bingo and baked goods for the cake walk.ScamperThe 44th annual Switchback Scamper will be held on Oct. 19. Registration deadline is the day of the race.Registration and pack pickup can also be made at Mauch Chunk Lake Park in the Wildoner/ Koch Pavilion from noon to 1:30 p.m. that day.The event is open to all age runners and walkers.
