Tamaqua native inducted as technology fellow

John J. Marcin Jr. was recently inducted as a fellow of the American Society of Metals International at the Materials Science and Technology Conference held in Pittsburgh.

Marcin, who is the manager of the Casting Laboratory at Pratt & Whitney aircraft in East Hartford, Connecticut, was recognized "for important contributions to investment casting of turbine airfoils and for developing new super alloy castings techniques to enable production of turbine airfoil designs with significantly higher temperature capability."Marcin is a 1979 graduate of Marian High School. He was the valedictorian. He also graduated Magna Cum Laude from Lehigh University in Bethlehem and was recipient of the

A.S.M. Lehigh Valley Chapter Student Award.Marcin is past president, and was recently elected to the executive committee and chairman of the technical committee of the Board of International Investment Castings Institute in Montvale, New Jersey.The son of John and Frances Marcin of Tamaqua, he lives in Marlborough, Connecticut, with his wife, Jeanine and four children, Genna, Julia, Johnny and Joey.
