The Lehighton area was shocked by the tragic drowning of four young men after a car in which they were riding plunged from a railroad trestle into the Lehigh River.

The victims were Gary Hartranft, 27; Gerald Hunsicker, 24; and Larry Moser, 27; all of Lehighton, and John Mika, 24, of Weissport.Police said the car dropped approximately 60 feet before landing on its roof in about 2-1/2 feet of water beneath the trestle owned by Conrail. The trestle, which spans the river between Lehighton and Weissport, is about 60 feet wide.
