Commissioners, salary board approve personnel moves

The Carbon County Commissioners and Salary Board made a number of changes in the district attorney's office Thursday.

The moves come one week after longtime District Attorney Gary Dobias retired and new District Attorney Jean A. Engler was sworn in.The actions taken by both boards are as follows. All are retroactive to Sept. 1 unless otherwise noted.• William E. McDonald of New Ringgold, from second assistant district attorney to first assistant district attorney. He will receive a salary of $40,000 a year.• Michael S. Greek of Nesquehoning, from third assistant district attorney to second assistant district attorney. He will receive a salary of $38,717 a year.• Cynthia Dydra-Hatton of Lehighton, from fourth assistant district attorney and solicitor for the prothonotary's office to third assistant district attorney and solicitor for the prothonotary's office. She will receive a salary of $38,000 annually.• Change the rate of one legal secretary II from $18.94 per hour, to $12.52 per hour, effective Sept. 10.• Denise B. Williams-Amill of Lehighton, from legal secretary II trainee to legal secretary II, effective Sept. 10.• Abolish the position of one fourth assistant district attorney at $36,239 per year, effective Sept. 4.• Abolish the position of one legal secretary II trainee at $11.81 per hour, effective Sept. 10.Other salary board and personnel moves included:Clerk of courts• Change the salary of one director of the bureau of collections from $41,022.80 per year to $27,955.20 per year, effective Sept. 13.• Change the rate of one collection clerk II of the bureau of collections from $12.79 per hour to $10.72 per hour, effective Oct. 4.Public Defender• Establish the position of one full-time assistant public defender at $51,500 a year, effective Sept. 4.• Matthew J. Mottola of Northampton, from law clerk to full-time assistant public defender, effective Sept. 5.• Paul J. Levy of Allentown, from assistant public defender to first assistant public defender, retroactive to Sept. 1.Court administration• Change the salary of one law clerk from $32,086.60 a year to $31,158.40 a year, effective Sept. 5.• Justin M. Metz of Beaver Meadows, from law clerk (temporarily) to law clerk, effective Sept. 5.Communications Center• Change the rate of one part-time dispatcher from $11.71 per hour to $11.37 per hour, effective Sept. 4.Corrections• Establish the position of one part-time LPN at $20 per hour, effective Sept. 4. Position is excluded from retirement plan because it is not anticipated to work 1,000 hours.• Abolish the position of one temporary full-time LPN at $20.85 per hour, effective Sept. 4.Resignations• Kasaundra L.
