The Palmerton Area Library hosted the 10th annual quilt show on Sunday.
The quilt show was started and is sponsored by Sew What Quilt Guild."I come from a family of quilters and I knew there are local quilters who never get to show," said Terri Sheckler, the president of Sew What Quilt Guild."We were coming up with ideas for fundraisers for the library and this was mine."The money is raised through advertisers and the Chinese Auction as well as vendors. This year showed approximately 100 quilts. The Chinese auction had fat squares, sewing needles and thread and other sewing equipment for auction on Sunday. All of the proceeds raised go right back to the library. The quilts shown at the library were rich in history. Some quilts were made as early as the 1890s.
This quilt was found by Janice (Remaley) Kromer when she was moving out of state. The quilt was made by her grandmother Emma (Binder) Remaley. It is thought that the material is colorful feed sacks. The quilt is currently being finished by Kathy Long and is shown as a work-in-progress. AMANDA J. TREIBLE/TIMES NEWS
