A 52-year-old Tamaqua man was placed in Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville, after a domestic incident that injured his son.
Tamaqua Police were dispatched to 216 Pine St. at 10:06 p.m. on June 20.When they arrived, officers spoke with Brian Veglia, who admitted being involved in an altercation with his son. Veglia said the teen had confronted him about a personal matter.After a short argument, Veglia picked up a baseball hit and hit his son with it. He then told the officer he was "going to kill my son like Marvin Gaye."The victim, his mother and a brother all confirmed that the teen was angry with something he discovered about his dad and confronted him about it. Veglia picked up the bat, told the son he was going to kill him and then struck him on the left shoulder and arm.As he took a proper batting stance, the teen charged him, pushing the dad into the kitchen. He was able to push the older man down, straddle his chest and punch the man in the face before officers arrived.Veglia was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, assault with a deadly weapon, making terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, and harassment. He was arraigned before District Judge James Ferrier, who set bail at $20,000 straight cash.
