Walnutport has plans for grant

Walnutport is so confident in its master grant coordinator Michael Wentz that the question isn't if grant money will be awarded, but what to spend it on.

David Lear of Walnutport Play Ground Associations spoke at Thursday night's borough meeting about a dugout in the park in need of desperate repair.Lear said he had previously sent a proposal months ago about damage to the sides, back, as well as a tilt in the front slab, needing work. Some members of the council have other ideas, and say the mulch in the playground should be changed from wood to the commonly used rubberized variety."As far as the dugout goes, it'd be better just to rip it down and start over," Councilman Matthew Newhard said."Money is the factor," Vice President Michael Gaston said. The board agreed to table the matter for now."Wait till the grant comes through," Newhard said.A workshop meeting will be held regarding the future grant at 7 p.m. Aug. 6 in the borough hall.
