Schuylkill write-ins guarantee victories, create other races

The Schuylkill County Elections Bureau recently released write-in results from the primary election held on May 16.

Nineteen-year-old Nathan Gerace will be uncontested after tallying 53 write-in votes on the Democratic ticket to get his name on both ballots for Tamaqua mayor in the general election.The next closest vote-getter on the Democratic ticket was Christine Rottet Hartung with 46.David Mace will have his name on both ballots in the race for one of three seats on Tamaqua Borough Council. Mace earned 12 write-in votes on the Democratic ticket.Pamela J. McCullion will be uncontested for the Tamaqua tax collector position. She tallied 34 write-in votes to get her name on the Democratic ticket.In the race for Coaldale mayor, Herb Whildin is essentially guaranteed victory with his name on both ballots after securing 34 write-in votes on the Democratic ticket. Incumbent Joel Johnson, who will be on the ballot for a council seat, fell short, receiving six Republican write-in votes and two write-in votes from the Democrats.Frank Hutta added his name to the race for one of three Coaldale council seats with 23 votes on the Democratic ticket. Anne Girard will have her name on both ballots after getting 13 write-in votes from the Democrats.By receiving five votes on the Republican ticket, Karen Harkins will be uncontested for a four-year term as the Coaldale East Inspector of Elections.For the same seat in Coaldale West, there will be a race in November between Cynthia Freeman, who received eight votes from Democrats; and Brenda Hosler, who tallied nine votes on the Republican ticket.Elizabeth Hosler will be uncontested for a four-year term as Coaldale West Judge of Elections, netting 10 Democratic votes and 16 Republican votes.The one open seat on the West Penn Township Board of Supervisors will be decided between Lawrence Stival on the Democratic side and Timothy Houser, who received 300 write-in votes on the Republican ticket.Diane Fritz received eight write-in votes on the Democratic ticket and will challenge Ruth Ann Wehr on the Republican side for the West Penn Township Third Inspector of Elections.Joseph G. Groody assured himself as the only name on the November ballot for Schuylkill County Sheriff after tallying 1,015 write-in votes on the Republican ticket.In Rush Township, Michelle Kabilko received 13 Democratic write-in votes for tax collector, meaning she will be the only name on the ballot come November.Dennis Eisley tallied five write-in votes on both tickets and will be the only name on the ballot for Rush Township Elixir Inspector of Elections.
