3 county row office races
Next Tuesday's primary election in Schuylkill County will have Republican voters deciding on nominations for three row offices.
The GOP has races for treasurer, clerk of courts, and register of wills. The other county offices up for election due not have any races.On the Democratic side, there are no races for any of the county office nominations.CommissionersRepublican incumbent county commissioners Frank J. Staudenmeier, chairman, and George F. Halcovage are running as a team for re-election for four year terms.Incumbent Democrat and minority commissioner Gary J. Hess is seeking his second four-year term. He is joined on the Democratic ballot by newcomer Joe Devine.The four will square off in the fall for three seats to be elected.Row officesThere are races for the Republican nominations for three row offices.Incumbent treasurer Jacqueline V. McGovern is not seeking another term and is retiring.Seeking to replace her are Linda Gallo Marchalk and Albert L. Gricoski. On the Democratic side Brett M. Clark is unopposed for the nomination.The clerk of courts position also has a race on the GOP side. Seeking the nomination are Larry Pador and Maria Casey. Incumbent Democrat Stephen M. Lukach Jr. resigned from office last year after it was revealed that he was under investigation for alleged misappropriation of funds in the office. The state Attorney General's office is conducting the investigation. On the Democratic side Catherine Mahon is unopposed.The final office with a challenge is register of wills. Incumbent Republican Theresa Santai Gaffney is being challenged by Kerry L. Ansbach. On the Democratic side Frank DiMarco is unopposed.Incumbent Republican Christy Joy is unopposed for another four-year term as controller. There is no Democratic candidate.Incumbent Ann Dudish is seeking a four-year term as recorder of deeds. She is finishing the term of her late husband, A. Matthew Dudish, who died June 26, 2014. She is unopposed. On the Democratic side Gina Warhola is unopposed.Incumbent Republican Dr. David J. Moylan is seeking his second four-year term as coroner and is unopposed. Democrat James A. Nettles is also unopposed.District judgesThere are two district judges seats, six-year terms, up for election this year.David A. Plachko is seeking another term and is unopposed for the Democratic nod and there are no Republicans on the ballot seeking the position. The office is based in Port Carbon. Plachko has cross-filed.Anthony J. Kilker is seeking another term his office, which is based in Shenandoah. Kilker is unopposed for the Democratic nod and there are no Republicans seeking the position. He has also cross-filed.
