Carbon County officials are now turning to social media to help get the word out to residents, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The board of commissioners recently created a Facebook page “Carbon County Commissioners” and ask residents to like the page.

Commissioner Chris Lukasevich, who has used his own social media account to send out information on the county since taking office, said that while this page is still in its infancy, it will be used to send out pertinent pandemic information and county produced public service announcements. The page will not take over for the county website, but will be a complement to it, pointing residents to the website when detailed information, meeting agendas and minutes and other announcements are posted.

“During this challenging time, and in consideration of an absolute necessity for social distancing and the safety of citizens and county employees, the Board of Commissioners launched its Facebook page, Carbon County Commissioners, to ensure the public could remain involved and informed on the uninterrupted and essential activities of its county government,” Lukasevich said.

The board is also now livestreaming its meetings on the Facebook page every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and then post the video for viewers who cannot watch the livestream.

“Over the coming weeks, it is the commissioners’ intent to increase the use of the Facebook page to communicate with the citizens of Carbon County and ensure that in these trying times, our citizens remain connected to its governments,” Lukasevich said.
