Palmerton library announces student winners of Art Show
The walls in the upstairs gallery of the Palmerton Area Library were plastered with art.
In all, 72 works of art by local students ages 6-18 were featured at the library's annual Student Art Show on Saturday.Prizes were awarded in two age categories, according to library Director Diane Danielson.Winners in the age 6-12 group were Riley Cordova, "Full Moon," first place; Ella Cronk, "Stormy Sailing, second place; and Shen DeNardo, "The Daisy Spirits," third place.In the age 13-18 group, winners were Tate Koch, "Red," first place; Zachary Storm, "Lorde," second place; and Katlyn Hoffman, "Sunset Bridge," third place.The artwork will be on display for two more weeks, so the public is invited to stop in the library and check it out.For kids in kindergarten through sixth grade, the summer reading programs will begin this week at the library. The theme for this summer is "Every Hero Has a Story."There will be an opening program at 10:30 a.m. Friday for kids of all ages presented by "Sciencetellers."They will be using exciting science experiments to tell stories as part of the fun and interactive program.The Summer Reading Club will be held on Fridays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. There will be stories, games, crafts, special visitors and more.For children ages 3-5, Preschool Circle Time will be held on Thursdays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. upstairs in the gallery. There will be stories, games, songs and rhythm instruments.All programs are free and open to the public. No advance registration is required.The public is also invited to participate in the library's Book Chain Contest for the summer.For every book read, add a link to the library's growing chain. There are different colors for different age groups, including adults.The contest runs through Sept. 1. Sign up now to increase the chances of winning some cool prizes, including an iPad given away by radio station B104. This contest is free and open to everyone.The library is open Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.Check the library website,
