Jim Thorpe woman dies from rare cancer

A beautiful, young life has been taken from this earth.

On Saturday, Chelsea Green-Lapp, surrounded by family, passed away after a three-month battle with a rare form of cancer. The 25-year-old Jim Thorpe resident was diagnosed with stage 4 endometrial stromal sarcoma cancer, one of the rarest types of uterine cancer that affect the reproductive organs, in April. Her case was one of approximately 22 known cases of this type of cancer over the past decade and she was the youngest woman ever diagnosed.Denise Green, Chelsea's mother, said that Chelsea's battle was hard, but she was trying her best."She fought hard," she told the Times News Tuesday afternoon. "She did everything they asked her to do."Green said the past few weeks were particularly tough on Chelsea as she was continually getting blood transfusions, and had to have an NG tube inserted into her stomach to drain the waste that was collecting as a result of the tumors growing in her body."The poor girl went through hell," she added, noting that Chelsea was at home when she passed. "She wanted to come home. She was at peace with everything."Green said that her daughter, who would have celebrated her second wedding anniversary to her husband James in October, chose to be cremated and requested that her husband, mother and father each receive part of her in the form of a necklace or other momento containing some of her ashes so that she would be close to them always."She will be missed," Green said, adding that everyone loved her daughter's bright personality. "She made everyone laugh."Chelsea was the only child of Denise and Kevin Green of Jim Thorpe, the wife of James Lapp, daughter-in-law of Denise and Jim Lapp of Palmerton, and the granddaughter of Pete and Claire Hoherchak of Jim Thorpe.Services will be held at 8 tonight at the David J. Stianche Funeral Home, 123 Center St., JimThorpe, with calling from 6 p.m. to the time of theservice.A GoFundMe account, which initially had been set up to help offset Chelsea's rising medical bills, is now acceptingdonations to help cover the costs of the bills as well as Chelsea's funeral."Anything that anyone donates is greatly appreciated," Green said, noting that the family doesn't know how much the medical bills will be yet and insurance doesn't cover everything. To help the family, visit
