When Melissa Price walked into her bedroom in Lansford, her boyfriend opened fire with a handgun. He shot her three times.

The gunshots resulted in about a dozen surgeries and three blood transfusions. Her gallbladder and part of her large intestine were removed.Both lungs collapsed.She was in a coma for about two weeks.Price, 38, testified during a preliminary hearing held for Levi Zagata, 37, of 439 W. Patterson St., Lansford, at the office of District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford.Zagata has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of terroristic threats, and one count of attempted homicide.Kosciolek ordered Zagata to stand trial in Carbon County Court on all the charges in the shooting that happened around 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 22, 2014, at 439 W. Patterson St.He remains in Carbon County Correctional Facility under $250,000 bail.Price testified she was at her home with her four children when the shooting happened. The children are from Zagata's brother, David, she said.Zagata was already in bed when Price walked into the bedroom. She said she walked into the bedroom to change her clothing. When she turned toward Zagata, he asked her, "How about this?"She said he then shot her three times, once in the abdomen, once in the ribs, and once in the upper chest.She said after he shot her, "I was calling for my kids. He told me to shut up."Zagata then called the Carbon County Communications Center to report there was a shooting.Sgt. Jack Soberick, officer in charge of the Lansford Police Department, said Price remained conscious after she was shot.Soberick said he was dispatched to the residence after Price's son went to the next-door neighbor. According to the affidavit, the son told the neighbor that his mother and Zagata were arguing. The son said he heard three gunshots and that he heard his mother yell for help. Price said at the hearing that there was no arguing when the shooting happened.Soberick testified that when he arrived at the residence, two Summit Hill police officers, Todd Woodward and Jeff Ohl, already were at the scene.He said Zagata was sitting on a sofa on the first floor and holding a pillow to his head. When he put the pillow down, Soberick said he saw blood "spraying out his jaw very profusely." He added that Zagata's eye was injured and it appeared it was a gunshot wound.At the hearing, Zagata's left eye was closed.Soberick said when he went upstairs, he found Price lying on the floor."She was struggling to breathe. Gurgling. She was conscious," Soberick said.In the affidavit, Soberick said that Zagata admitted shooting himself after shooting Price.
