The Mahoning Valley Fire Company responded to a number of brush fires Thursday evening along Route 443. About 6:30 p.m. motorists and neighbors reported a number of fires along the north berm of the roadway.

There were a series of fires just west of Springhouse Road and another near Two Kings Pizza. Neighbors using shovels and tools maintained the fires until firefighters arrived on scene. Authorities believe the fires were intentionally set after interviewing witnesses. The fires may be related to another brush fire 8:30 Thursday morning also along Route 443 across from the Times News building.
