A look back: March 30, 2006

The Reading and Northern Railroad of Port Clinton has, reportedly without any forewarning, demolished a major crossing onto the Kovatch Corporation property in Nesquehoning.

John Kovatch III, president of the Kovatch Corporation, said workers have dug up the crossing over the railroad tracks along Route 54, next to its Ford retail sales division and in front of the aerial testing operations of the KME division.

The tracks are owned by Carbon County, which is under contract with the C&S Railroad to manage and maintain the railroad. C S and Reading and Northern are affiliated. A spokesman for the Reading and Northern Railroad said bluntly, “The railroad has no comment.”
