A theft by deception/impersonation incident in Tremont, Schuylkill County, has resulted in a woman being scammed out of $2,050, state police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks said.

The 69-year-old woman reported March 4 that someone posed as her friend and plotted to scam her out of money. Police said the actor told the victim she could apply for a federal grant by sending $1,000 in exchange for $50,000. The person also asked the victim for more money and various gift cards to ensure expeditious delivery of the grant that she never received, police said.
