Kidz Karnival

Salvation Army volunteers will host the annual Kidz Karnival on Aug. 2. The event is held in conjunction with Tamaqua's National Night Out celebration.Silberline Inc. has again stepped up to be a major sponsor, pledging to match up to $10,000 in sponsorship donations. There are many levels for donors, from those purchasing a book of tickets to corporate sponsors.The karnival will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. in the community parking lot on North Railroad Street, while the NNO will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be games, rides, food, contests, prizes and information booths.For more information on the Karnival, contact Dina at 570-668-0410.For the National Night Out, contact Leona at 570-668-1192.Summer lunchThe South Ward Playground Association is providing a free lunch from now through Aug. 19.The free summer lunch program is open to children up to and including age 18. Lunches will be served weekdays, from noon to 1 p.m., at the South Ward Playground.The program is an offshoot of the free school lunch program, with funding provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.In addition to a healthy lunch, participants will be offered a variety of summer activities.The playground is located between Penn and Race streets in Tamaqua's South Ward.CanceledTamaqua Elks event, Night at The Races, scheduled for Saturday,has been canceled.Contact Kathy Kunkel at 570-668-1250 or
