Hall of Fame inductees

Every three years, the Cedar Crest College Alumnae Hall of Fame pays tribute to alumnae who have distinguished themselves in their professional or personal lives and have demonstrated support for Cedar Crest College.

The new Class of 2019 life members are as follows: Dr. Blenda J. Wilson ’62, recognized for her pioneering spirit and inclusive leadership, was the first African American woman associate dean of Harvard Graduate School of Education; the first woman to head a four-year college or university in the state of Michigan; the first African American president of a university with more than 25,000 students, and the first woman or African American to chair the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. She has received 27 honorary degrees from institutions across the country.

Dr. Martha “Marty” Schaeffer Tennille ’64, was recognized for a lifetime dedicated to teaching and service. She has been recognized by a number of organizations for her contributions to their causes.

Twelve-time Emmy Award winner, Andrea Joel ’72, was recognized for her set designs. She attended the New School of Interior Design. She was one of the first female set decorators at CBS Television City such as The Price is Right, All in the Family, and The Young and the Restless.

Attorney Amelia M. Wagner ’78, was recognized for her dedication to Cedar Crest College and protection of the environment. She is the Senior Assistant Regional Counsel for the United States Environmental Protection Agency in New York City.

Captain Christine Boltz ’80, the recipient of several military awards, was recognized for exemplary service to her country. She was commissioned as an U.S. Navy Ensign and was in senior staff at the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery.

Samuel Miranda Jr. MS, RN, NEA-B.C. ’81, the first male graduate in Cedar Crest’s history, was recognized for excellence in nursing care and leadership. He retired in 2018 as the senior nursing executive at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation.

Dr. Lorraine Amory Soisson ’88, was recognized for significant contributions to malaria research. She was the first Cedar Crest College graduate to ever complete a triple major. She is the senior technical advisor for the Malaria Vaccine Development Program at the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Northampton County Community College

Bethlehem area students win awards

Northampton Community College recognized several Bethlehem area students at an Awards Convocation on April 25. They are Tracy Beck-Briggs, Bethlehem Women’s Club Nursing Award; Caileen Rose Dollard and Julio Justin Hernandez, Honors Program Awards; Kassandra L. Nunes, Institute of Management Accounting Award; Taina Esperanza DeJesus, Pan African Caucus Educational Scholarship (PACES); Winter G. Goodman, Sandra Preis and George Jain-Cocks Endowed Mathematics Award; and Daniel G. Stevens, Newman Civic Fellows Award.
