A Jim Thorpe man was killed on Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County.

State police at Lehighton identified the victim as Stevie R. Kates, 50.

Troopers said at 6:10 a.m. they were dispatched to the area of Route 903 and Church Road for a crash involving a commercial vehicle. On scene troopers observed a 2002 Saturn with heavy front end damage which had flipped onto the driver’s side. The second vehicle was a 2007 Mack truck which was operated by Dennis M. Lindsey, 60, of Mount Pocono. Damages were minor to the truck. Lindsey sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital - Gnaden Huetten Campus, Lehighton, by Lehighton ambulance.

Kates as pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers were assisted by volunteers from the Penn Forest Township Fire Company.

A state police reconstruction team was summoned to the scene. No other details of the crash were released.
