Miller-Keystone Blood Drive

Miller-Keystone Blood Center will conduct a community blood drive on Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the air-conditioned Fellowship Hall of First United Church of Christ, 457 Delaware Ave., Palmerton. This drive is sponsored by "Honey" and the late Dr. Howard Cyr, and Mary and Thomas Naab.Recent high school graduates and other young adults who are home for the summer are especially encouraged to donate. Anyone over 17 years of age, weighing at least 110 pounds, and who has not donated in the past eight weeks (since May 17) is eligible. One hour of your time can save up to three lives.Miller is the sole supplier of blood and blood products for all the hospitals in Carbon, Lehigh, Northampton counties and surrounding areas.For more information, or to make an appointment, call George Ashman at 610-826-2097 or email

Walk-ins are welcome.Community mealA free community meal will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton.The menu will be spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and homemade desserts. Please come and join together for this free meal and fellowship. All are welcome.Last month $143 was donated to the local food pantry.Park concertThis Sunday's Concert in the Palmerton Borough Park Bandstand will be presented by the Lehigh Valley Italian American Band, beginning at 7 p.m. This concert is sponsored by the Horsehead Community Development Fund.There is no rain date for any concert. The Bandstand Committee reserves the right to cancel the concert due to inclement weather.Please bring your own lawn chair. On July 19, the concert will be by Remember When.Food PantryThe Palmerton Food Pantry will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 17. The food pantry is located at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2914 Fireline Road, Palmerton.Summer 5-Day ClubA summer 5-day Club for kids will be held at Living Hope Lighthouse Church, 705 Third St., Palmerton, July 27-31, from 6-7 p.m. The event will be presented by Child Evangelical Fellowship of the Lehigh/Carbon County and will be held in the church fellowship hall.For information contact Laura Coulson at 717-460-3494 or call the church at 610-826-2201.Carbon Model Railroad SocietyThe Carbon Model Railroad Society will hold a Christmas on July Open House at 529 Ore St., Bowmanstown, on July 18, July 19 and July 23 from 7-9 p.m.The main HO scale display is in various stages of completion and is an excellent learning tool.
