A Carbon County man was sentenced to a county prison term on Monday after previously admitting to an assault and fleeing police.

Jeffrey Allen DeLong, 22, of Lehighton, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve a total of seven to one day less 24 months in the county prison followed by one year of probation.The prison term was a simple assault on a woman on April 18 in the 200 block of Gypsy Hill Road, Lehighton. In a second case he pleaded to persistent disorderly conduct, fleeing police and institutional vandalism for an incident on June 3 filed by Jim Thorpe police. DeLong caused a disturbance in the office of District Judge Edward Lewis.DeLong told Matika he had made mistakes but wants to turn his life around. "I take full responsibility for everything I've done."Matika told DeLong, "You are fortunate that the victim has been so lenient here." The woman agreed to a plea bargain in which more serious counts of aggravated assault were dropped.Matika also ordered DeLong to render 125 hours of community service when released on parole, get both a mental health and drug and alcohol evaluations and follow any recommendations for treatment, pay court costs of about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole and probation.On various summary charges he was fined a total of $575. He was given credit for 184 days already spent in jail on the charges.
