Tamaqua Borough Council on Tuesday approved the use of the Bungalow pool by the Tamaqua YMCA as part of their Adventure Day Camp program. They also approved a request from the Citizens Fire company to hold its annual block party and a request from the American Legion to hold Tamaqua's annual Memorial Day parade on May 30.

Council received a bid from Alfred Benesch for $12,000 to come up with a drawing and ideas for how to reinforce the property at 15 S. Lehigh St. if the adjoining property at 13 S. Lehigh St. is demolished.Based on an inquiry from Kline Township to rent the borough's sewer camera, Council set the rate to rent that equipment at $250 an hour including an operator.Council approved a request from Councilman Dan Evans, under parking and traffic, to close several streets in the area of Zion Church for a funeral on Saturday morning. The date coincides with opening day of Little League Baseball, which is also held in the Dutch Hill area, and there is expected to be a lot of congestion.Council heard from Owl Creek resident Joseph Salla who wanted to know if there were restrictions on when people are allowed to remove timber from their land.According to Salla, property owners in his area are removing timber and the operation is continuing until 10 or 11 at night. Salla also complained about the number of speeding cars in the Owl Creek area.Police Chief Rick Weaver said that the police do run speed in Owl Creek and will continue to do so.
