Letter: Supporting Christian Bartulovich for state representative

I am supporting Christian Bartulovich for Pennsylvania State Representative. I believe after 16 years we need a state representative who is walking in the shoes of a Carbon County resident and not of a career politician. I believe we, as voters, should enforce our own term limits.

I respect Christian’s willingness to walk away from his political identity, a Republican running on the Democratic ticket, for the betterment of his community. It is my hope that he can be an example to younger people, especially those who are part of Carbon County Young Republicans which Christian co-founded, that bipartisan cooperation is needed to make progress.

I am a registered non-affiliated voter. I vote on policy and not on tradition.

I will be the first to admit that I have voted for Doyle numerous times believing that because he lives in my community, he would do the right thing for us. My view has changed due to the proposed data center in Lower Towamensing and the Northface site in Palmerton.

The Northface site on the West End of Palmerton has been ongoing for 16 years. Residents have been complaining for years about the truck traffic, rats, and the noxious odor to no avail. Recently signs have appeared stating Doyle accepted campaign contributions from the Northface Chief Operation Officer for the last 10 years which is confirmed. He is supposed to advocate for his constituents.

Then there is the matter of the proposed data centers. I attended Doyle’s Data Center Town Hall with high hopes of his representation being able to stop the data center in Lower Towamensing. I left the meeting feeling disillusioned by his lack of accountability, finger pointing, and praising of tax revenue.

I realized then the Lower Towamensing residents are on their own to fight. Penn Forest has the same issue. Penn Forest residents ask Christian to run because of their frustration and lack of representation. Therefore, we must stop voting for Doyle.
