October 30, 2002 — Marian wins its fourth straight District 11 volleyball championships by defeating both Tri-Valley and Nativity. The Fillies, coached by Nikki Hackenberg, top the Bulldogs 15-8, 12-15, 15-11 in the winner’s bracket final of the double elimination tournament before sweeping the Golden Girls 15-9, 15-11 in the title round. Angie Rutch collects 22 kills and 33 digs in the two matches, while Jen Blasko adds 20 kills and 20 digs. Ashley Shickora contributes 13 kills, 12 blocks and 12 digs, and Kayla Poluka finishes with 66 assists. Also aiding the win are Caitlyn Kuhn (10 kills, 11 blocks) and Jill Homyak (10 kills, 11 digs).
