Schuylkill supervisors suggest no property tax increase

Property taxes will not rise, if a tentative budget approved Wednesday night in Schuylkill Township is adopted later this year.

The supervisors approved a $321,854.96 budget that calls for the same 1.482-mill property tax rate as in 2026.

Supervisor Gary Feathers said the supervisors were able to stave off a tax increase despite hikes in salt, fuel, insurance, gas and electric rates.

The next township meeting will be on Nov. 18.

Supervisor Charles Hosler said the township is advertising for a part-time maintenance worker. But in the meantime, some community members have volunteered to pitch in to help.

“A couple of people wanted to help out,” Feathers said. “So they will, on an as-needed basis.”

Volunteers will also paint the hallway in the township building, as they did the township meeting room.

In other business, the supervisors discussed the township’s new ordinance that creates an industrial zone in the township. The new law was spurred by the advent of data centers in the area.

“An industrial zone was created on the south side of Route 209 outside of Tuscarora,” Feathers said. “There are a series of different parcels under different owners that amount to about 600 acres,”

“It’s up to the property owners if they want to sell the land for industry,” Hosler said.
