The West Penn Township Police Department now has an emergency call box.
According to township police Chief Jason Lorah, the device was Lt. John Kaczmarczyk’s idea.
“If somebody rolls up to our station that doesn’t have a cellphone and needs us, they just hit a button and it goes right to the comm center,” Lorah told township supervisors during a recent meeting.
Also during the meeting, Kaczmarczyk reported that the police department received an approximate $35,000 Local Share Account grant.
The funding will be for three vehicle mounted cameras, he said.
The LSA program distributes state gaming revenue for first-responder equipment, as well as infrastructure and community improvement projects.
Lorah noted that he and Kaczmarczyk also recently replaced lights in the department’s parking lot.
Officers patrolled 5,531 miles during the month of September and issued 72 traffic citations and 18 traffic warnings. There were seven motor vehicle crashes and a total of 77 calls for the month.
