State police at Hazleton - crashes

State police at the Hazleton barracks reported the following crashes:

• Police responded to a hit-and-run at 7:22 p.m. Oct. 1 on Route 92 in Banks Township.

They said a vehicle traveling north crossed the double yellow line and struck a 2023 Hyundai Tucson driven by Mathew W. Ryan, 34, of Weatherly, before leaving the scene without stopping. Ryan and a passenger, a 13-year-old boy from Weatherly, were uninjured.

Police said the Tucson had minor damage after the incident.

• Jazmine N. Barreto, 30, of Wilkes-Barre, was cited for reckless driving after police responded to a one-vehicle crash at 6:51 p.m. Sept. 30 on South Lehigh Gorge Drive, Lehigh Township. She was uninjured in the incident.

Police said she was driving a 2016 Dodge Ram truck south at a high rate of speed when she lost control of the vehicle and it traveled to the right and struck a utility pole.

The truck was towed from the scene.

• Police were called to a one-vehicle hit-and-run at 1:41 a.m. Sept. 26 on Main Street in Banks Township.

They said a vehicle traveling west left its lane of travel, veered off the road, struck a fire hydrant and caused damage to the front yard of a residence before the driver fled the scene.

• Shane D. Coll, 27, of Weatherly, was injured in a one-car crash at 10:25 p.m. Sept. 19 on Quakake Road, Packer Township.

Police said he was transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton Campus.

Police said he was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze east at a high rate of speed when he failed to observe a left curve in the roadway. They said the car struck a guide rail and utility pole, severing the pole in half and downing power lines.

Police said Coll was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.

The Cruze was towed from the scene.

• No one was injured in a crash involving two trucks on Interstate 81 in Butler Township.

Khaled G. Ebeid, 47, of Palmyra, was cited for after the crash at 7:15 a.m. Sept. 17, police said.

Ebeid was driving a 2023 Grande West Transportation International northbound when he unsafely changed from the right to the left lane in an area approaching a construction zone, police said. His rig was struck by a 2006 Peterbilt operated by Thomas J. Case, 48, of Tamaqua, who police said was unable to stop.

Police said the Grande West had minor damage, while the Peterbilt had disabling front-end damage.
