Monroe County incidents

State police at the Stroudsburg barracks reported the following incidents:

• Karen James, 54, of Blakeslee, was cited for disorderly conduct after police were called to an incident at 4:57 p.m. Sept. 26 in the 3500 block of Route 611, Hamilton Township.

Police said the victim was a 70-year-old East Stroudsburg woman.

• A 38-year-old Stroudsburg man is facing various charges after police said he walked into the police barracks at 3:29 a.m. Sept. 12 in a state of extreme paranoia.

Police said he drove a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta to the station while under the influence of a controlled substance to a degree that rendered him incapable of safe driving. They said he made a report that police found to be inaccurate as a result of being under the influence.

• A 22-year-old Stroudsburg woman is the victim of a bad checks case police were called to at 11:52 a.m. Sept. 8 on Sandhill Terrace, Hamilton Township.

Police said it was discovered that someone posed as an employee of United Thai Boxing and MMC Gym in Durham, North Carolina, and sent the woman a check for $2,371. The woman was told to send back the money via a cash app, Venmo, and Apple Pay. They said the victim provided her Social Security number, license and bank routing number in the theft by deception scheme.

• A 23-year-old Brodheadsville woman is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol after police made a traffic stop at 11:17 p.m. Sept. 5.

She was stopped in a 2023 Hyundai Elantra for Motor Vehicle Code violations on Route 209 in Stroud Township and was taken into custody without incident.

• Police responded to a missing-person report at 5:48 p.m. Sept. 1 at Merakey, a residential mental health facility on Route 209 in Hamilton Township.

Police said a 42-year-old Effort man left the facility between 4 and 5 p.m. and was entered into the National Crime Information Center system as a missing person that night. He was located in Stroudsburg Borough about 1:02 a.m. Sept. 7 and returned to the facility.

• A 36-year-old Whitehall man is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance after police made a traffic stop at 9:54 p.m. Aug. 28.

He was stopped in a 2019 GMC on Route 209 in Hamilton Township.
