A shared services agreement between Panther Valley School District and the boroughs of Summit Hill, Lansford and Coaldale will again reap benefits for the taxpayers in the district.

Because of the pact, extensive improvements to the parking lot at the high school will be done on Columbus Day when schools are closed.

Scott Fisher, superintendent of building and grounds, said the work should be done in two days.

In other business:

• Bill Mack, new principal at the Carbon County Career and Technical Institute, attended the meeting of the PV board this week. He said all the shops are busy. One of the key projects of the students is the construction of a tiny home for someone. Mack said of the vo-tech, “I’m happy to be there. It’s a great culture.” He told the board that an open house program will be held on October 14 during which there will be a car show, food trucks and art by the students on display and for sale.

• Panther Valley Junior Senior High School principal Patricia Ebbert said 234 students have signed up to attend Saturday’s homecoming dance. She said homecoming festivities will occur prior to tonight’s football game against Nanticoke.

• Christine Forte, special ed supervisor, said there has been the “highest total ever” of transfer students to the district. She said she is looking to start a district-wide special education newsletter.

• The board approved the resignation of Hannah Mordaunt, a teacher at the Junior Senior High School, effective October 18. Mordaunt also resigned as the Junior High Student Council advisor.

• Emilee Lehman was hired as a paraprofessional at the Intermediate School.

• Kamryne Smith was hired as a paraprofessional at the Elementary school.

• Keith Degler was hired as human resource/payroll specialist at a salary of $25.18 per hour.

• Michelle Searfoss was hired as an accounts receivable/tax clerk at the rate of $21.08 per hour.

• Pamela Brubaker, Renata Lawrence, Rachael Albert and Amber McFadden were given approval to attend continued training courses.

• Tyler Mangold, an Intermediate School teach, will take three credit courses at Bloomsburg University at a cost of $560 per credit. The course is assessment for individualized evaluation and instruction.

• Madison Biechy, Intermediate School Counselor, will take two courses - a three-credit course and a six-credit course - at Commonwealth University at a cost of $560 per credit. The courses are multicultural counseling, data driven decisions and internship in school counseling.

• Maria Wozniak, Elementary School teacher, will take a three-credit course at East Stroudsburg University for research problems in reading, at a cost of $560 per credit.

• The board agreed to provide a free sport ticket for students with good attendance for the 2026-2027 school year.

• The board approved the purchase of 700 library books for the Panther Valley Elementary School from PermaBound at a cost of $15,646. Kim Laird, chairman of the education committee, said the purchase is grant funded.

• The board also approved the purchase of literary novels for the Panther Valley Junior Senior High school from Bulk Bookstore at a cost of $971.15. This purchase is funded through the Ready to Learn Grant.

• Jonathan Byers and Alysha Neff were approved as advisors for the Junior High Student Council.

• The board approved Samantha Lockwood, Sierra Fenton and Darlene Hentosh as volunteers for the current school year.
