The Franklin Township Lions Club’s newest project — a covered bridge at the Phifer Ice Dam Park — is finally completed.

The 26-foot long, by eight feet wide, and 11-foot high bridge spans the spillway at the main dam and was built at an estimated cost of $2,000.

The bridge was designed and constructed during various Sundays this summer by members of the club to serve as a link for park visitors to walk between the main parking lot and the playground, pavilion and bandshell areas.

The pavilion was also improved this summer at a cost of over $85,000 by the township supervisors, utilizing a $31,700 state grant, $26,155 from the Lions, $7,500 from the Horsehead Community Development Fund and $2,000 from F. and A.M. Lodge No. 621, with the township providing the difference in the cost.
