The number of Coaldale households behind on their sewer maintenance bills has decreased over the past month.

“We are down to 207,” borough Secretary Kim Gavornik told borough council last week.

Last month, there were 299 households in arrears. In July, the number was 334.

If the bills aren’t paid, delinquents will have their water service shut down on Sept. 29.

“You will get a notice and your house will be placarded 10 days prior to the shutoff,” Gavornik said.

Delinquents also face late fees. When they pay their bills, their water service will be restored, however, they must pay fees for having it disconnected and reconnected.

Also during the meeting, council:

• Appointed Lonnie Arner as a borough representative on the Coaldale-Lansford-Summit Hill Sewer Authority.

• Announced that the community yard sale will be Sept. 26 and 27.

• Set the community cleanup for Oct. 3.

• Learned of an interest for a community garden. Anyone interested is asked to contact council President Rose Hoben.
