A burned-out home on the main highway in Lansford will stand a little longer as officials continue to review the bid for the demolition of the building.

Last week, the Carbon County commissioners approved a request from the county Planning and Development office to table the award of the 2022 fiscal year Community Development Block Grant for the demolition and clearing of 316 W. Patterson St. until further review was completed.

The bid, submitted by Northeast Industrial Services Corp. of Shamokin, came in at $34,420 when the bids were opened on Aug. 20. Northeast was the only bidder for the project.

The single home was destroyed by fire in January 2017 and has been vacant and boarded up ever since.

In the month after the fire, Lansford Borough Council at that time said the structure was so heavily damaged that it needed to be condemned. It was also noted that the owner at the time of the fire had no insurance or mortgage.

Lansford applied for CDBG funds because neither the homeowner nor the borough could afford to tear the building down.

The demolition has been in the works since 2022 after the grant was awarded.
