September 11, 1982 — A second-quarter touchdown and two-point conversion by Northwestern stands up as the Tigers hold off Kutztown for an 8-6 victory. After connecting with Scott Barkman for a key 11-yard pass play during their only scoring drive, quarterback Matt Saltzer finds Kevin Oesterreich for a 19-yard TD toss. On the play, a defender tipped the ball but Oesterreich recovers to snare the ball. Saltzer then hits Barkman with the crucial two-point conversion. The Tigers benefit from forcing three turnovers, including a fumble recovery by Tim Kelchner that ends a Kutztown scoring threat.
