District Judge Tom Creighton’s office is preparing to relocate to the former Lamp Factory offices, a move township officials said could take place within the next few months.

His office is currently located in the basement of the fire hall on South Walnut Street in Slatington.

During the Washington Township supervisors meeting, officials reported that renovations are underway at the building, though one of the biggest challenges involves meeting fire safety requirements.

The project may require the installation of sprinklers or the construction of fire-resistant walls before the office can open in its new location.

In other business, supervisors approved Ordinance 2026-01, a road opening ordinance designed to ensure township roads are restored to the same condition, or better, following excavation work such as utility or drainage projects.

The board also authorized the Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce to hold its annual tree-lighting ceremony at Eagle’s Nest Park on Dec. 4.

At Slatedale Park, supervisors approved repairs to the fence behind the basketball court. The work will include adding a center support bar and a second gate. The project will be funded through the township recreation fund at a cost not to exceed $6,000.

Supervisors approved advertising for a part-time snowplow driver ahead of the winter season. The board also set trick-or-treat night for Oct. 28 and approved advertising for the township’s budget meeting, which will be held Oct. 12 at 5:15 p.m.

In support of local emergency services, supervisors agreed to sponsor a Carbon County Local Share Account grant application for Emerald Fire Company.

The grant would provide up to $150,000 for the purchase of new air packs, pending receipt of cost estimates.
