No one was injured when a truck driver fell asleep while operating a rig at mile marker 96.5 in Kidder Township, state police at the Pocono barracks said.

The incident occurred at 6:59 a.m. Aug. 29.

Police said Alexander Velazquez Ramos, 43, of Greentown, was operating the 2020 Freightliner northbound and was in a work zone with a closed left lane. They said he fell asleep while the rig was in a right curve and struck a 2007 Pace American trailer that was legally parked in the closed work zone lane.

The impact caused the trailer of the rig to break open and travel across both lanes, resulting in all lanes being closed because of debris.

Velazquez was cited after the crash, according to police.
