Firefighters from nine communities responded to a fire at 8 West Abbott St. at about 1 p.m. Monday.

Lansford Fire Chief Joseph Greco said it appears the fire started in the attic of the double home.

The attic was gutted.

It was contained to the attic and did some structural damage to the neighboring home at 6 West Abbott Street. The rest of the two dwellings sustained smoke and water damages.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, but a preliminary report indicates there was nothing suspicious.
