Two motorcycles collided on Route 611 in Lower Mount Bethel Township on Saturday at 5:10 p.m., killing one of the drivers and resulting in suspected serious injuries to the other.

State police at the Belfast barracks said Chad A. Hess, 46, of Bangor, was pronounced dead at the scene by a member of the Northampton County Coroner’s Office.

Injured was John T. Gurski, 50, also of Bangor. Police said he was transported by personnel from the Suburban Ambulance corps to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Anderson Campus, Easton.

Police said the crash occurred when Hess was operating a 2010 Harley Davidson south when he lost control of the cycle and it crossed into the northbound lane and struck a 2011 Harley Davidson driven by Gurski.

Police said both men were wearing helmets at the crash.

In addition to the coroner’s office, assisting police at the scene were state police from the Bethlehem barracks and volunteers from the Lower Mount Bethel Fire and Forks Township fire departments.
