Adults 40-plus interested in improving their health, vitality and well-being are invited to LIFT (Lifelong Improvements through Fitness Together) classes.
The Penn State Extension program is an in-person and group-based strength-training program for adults age 40 and over.
Participation in LIFT may result in improvements in functional fitness, or the ability to perform activities of daily living with ease.
Participants are encouraged to work towards achieving their own personal goals in a group setting.
LIFT sessions are held twice a week for one hour over the course of eight weeks and include an active warm-up, eight core strength-training exercises and a cooldown.
The program also includes basic nutrition information, with an emphasis on increased fruit and vegetable intake.
Benefits of the LIFT Program include:
• Increased muscle mass and strength.
• Improved bone density.
• Reduced risk for osteoporosis and related fractures.
• Reduced risk of diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, depression and obesity.
• Improved self-confidence, sleep and vitality.
• Improved balance.
There is a fee. Some insurances may reimburse participants with 80% or better attendance.
Please contact your insurance provider for more information.
Sessions will be held from 1-2 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Sept. 8 to Oct. 29 at Zion Church of Christ, 225 Iron St., Lehighton.
