A Mahoning Township man faces rape and related charges after having sex with a 12-year-old girl late last week, according to court papers.

Logan Berger, 29, of Mahoning Heights Road, was arraigned Saturday on charges of rape, statutory sexual assault, rape of a child, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age, corruption of minors and indecent exposure.

He was released from the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning Monday on $100,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled before District Judge Beth Dodson on Sept. 2.

According to court papers, a girl entered a Lehighton business Friday just before 4 p.m. and said that she had been sexually assaulted. Law enforcement responded and she was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Carbon for treatment.

The girl identified Berger and said the incident occurred at his residence, court papers said. She went with him in his car to retrieve a sweatshirt from his home, where the incident occurred.

She told medical staff that she engaged in sexual intercourse with Berger, against her will, court papers said. Afterward, he drove her to area where the 911 call came from.

During a forensic interview, the girl told investigators that Berger communicated with her through social media and the phone, and Berger had removed her sweatshirt on a prior date, but she stopped him from going any further, court papers said.

Police executed a search warrant on Berger’s home and took him into custody. He acknowledged having sexual intercourse with the girl but thought she was 18, court papers said.
