State police at Troop M, Bethlehem, have charged Lacole Diane Dotson, 27, of Freemansburg, with homicide following a shooting on Saturday in that municipality.

Dotson is facing felony charges of criminal homicide, attempted criminal homicide and aggravated assault, as well as a misdemeanor charge of recklessly endangering another person. She is being held at the Lehigh County Prison, Allentown, without bail.

Police said the incident occurred at 6:09 a.m. on Market Street and resulted in the death of Atirah Steed, 27, who police said lived in the home with Dotson and her father, Alphonso Steed. Police said he was shot in the back during the shootings.

Police said officers from the Freemansburg Borough Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call, and upon entering the residence observed gunshot wounds to the two individuals. They said lifesaving measures were immediately implemented and Dotson was taken into custody.

Police said Dotson shot the deceased in the front living room of the residence. They said Alphonso Steed, who had left for work but returned, walked in the door at that time and Dotson shot him as well. He fell onto the front porch.

Both victims were transported to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill, where the woman was pronounced dead at 7:16 a.m. They said Alphonso Steed remains in critical condition.

The incident remains under investigation. The Troop M Major Case Team is the lead in this investigation. Assisting in the investigation are personnel from the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office, Lehigh County Coroner’s Office, Troop M Forensic Services Unit, Troop M Collision Analysis Reconstruction Specialist Unit, PSP Computer Crimes Unit, Lower Saucon Township Police Department, Bethlehem Township Police Department and the Freemansburg Borough Police Department.
