Carbon County election officials are reviewing voter registration records to correct discrepancies and ensure compliance with federal and Pennsylvania election laws.

The county’s Elections/Registration Office said the review is part of an effort to maintain accurate records and ensure all eligible residents can cast ballots that are properly processed and counted.

Earlier this year, Lisa Dart returned as director of the Elections/Registration Office and conducted a review of existing voter registration files.

During that review, she identified older applications that require additional processing to update party affiliations, correct application errors and ensure records comply with current federal and state election laws, procedures and standards.

Officials said staff members have been trained to conduct a thorough review of those records and address any discrepancies so applications can be processed accurately.

Dart said in a press release that this process is to “ensure that every eligible resident of Carbon County is able to cast their ballot and be assured that their vote will be properly processed and tabulated, regardless of private interests or party politics.

“As always, Carbon County is committed to the administration of secure, free and fair elections, and in the interests of honesty and transparency, the Elections/Registration Office wishes to inform our community about current efforts to further improve our operations.”

The county said the review is a time-intensive process that may result in longer processing times for voter registration requests. Officials asked residents for patience as the work continues.

“This is an important, time-intensive process which is necessary to provide the level of service and accuracy that applicants expect and deserve,” Dart said in the release. “We acknowledge that this may result in longer processing times, and we sincerely appreciate your continued patience and understanding as we prioritize these corrections.”
