The 11th annual Franklin Township Girls Old Times Softball Game will be held at noon Saturday at Christman Ball Field in the township. The rain date is Sunday.

In addition to the softball game, there will be a basket raffle, 50/50 drawing and homemade food.

Don Rehrig, event co-organizer, said the game is open to any girl 18 or older or coach who has previously played for the Franklin Township Softball Association.

Rehrig said they have about 20 girls coming out to play this year’s game.

“It is a game of fun,” Rehrig said. “For a lot of the girls, it’s a time to get together and reminisce who haven’t seen each other in a while, play their hearts out and it’s just for fun.”

Rehrig said proceeds raised from this year’s game will benefit former player Regina Dreher, who is battling health issues, to offset medical expenses.

“That’s what we started this for in the past, to help one of our own,” he said. “We appreciate all the support we get from the community,”

Rehrig noted the game previously raised funds for the Mahoning Valley Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, Franklin Township Fire Department and Lehighton Fire Department.

Over the last 10 years, Rehrig said the game has raised just over $27,000 for area organizations.

Proceeds from last year’s game benefited the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department.

The game previously raised funds for the Butch Rodgers Scholarship fund, American Legion Post 314 of Lehighton, Vanessa Hand Family and the Franklin Township Athletic Association Concession Stand.
