The 45th annual Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 Block Party will be held Friday and Saturday at the fire department on Fairyland Road.

Chris Lilly, president of the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary, said the event is a top-notch fundraiser.

“It’s an amazing thing to know that the volunteers come together and amazingly pull it off,” Lilly said. “There’s so much stuff that is going on, so many things that need to be done, that I’m overwhelmed by the cooperation that they all give.”

Lilly said the event starts at 4 p.m. both days.

She said Friday will have seafood dinners from 4-7 p.m. (choice of fried haddock, baked haddock, butterflied shrimp, or chicken fingers, with choice of filling or fries). Also during that time, there will be hamburgers, cheeseburgers and chicken barbecue outside. After 7 p.m., there will be three kinds of barbecue, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, steaks and cheesesteaks, sausage sandwiches, fries, pierogies, fish sandwiches and filling inside.

Lilly said TPEI will sponsor the entertainment by South Penn Dixie from 6-10 p.m. Friday.

On Saturday, the full menu will be available inside starting at 4 p.m. Hamburgers and cheeseburgers will be available outside.

Lilly said Andreas Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning will sponsor Mystery City from 6-10 p.m. Saturday.

She said St. Luke’s University Health Network will sponsor the fireworks spectacular by Pyro Joe, which will start between 10 and 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Both days there will be funnel cakes, and waffle and ice cream outside, Lilly said.

Beverages include soda, water, and Zimmerman’s ice tea inside, with water, beer, mixed drinks and coolers available outside, she said.

Outdoor vendors both days will include Pocono Potato Chip Company, Mason’s Lemonade, Hoff Kettle Corn, Super Soft Ice Cream, Kitty Kat Concessions, Crochet Line and I’m That Guy Bounce House. Lehighton Ambulance Service will be on hand to answer questions from the public, Lilly said.

Games will include nerf bottles, duck pond, pick a pop, tick tack toe (throw a ball and get three in a row) and sand art, she said.

Lilly said there will also be adult games, a Big Six Wheel, rip opens and the dime toss. There will also be a beer garden.

Inside, she said there will be a big basket raffle, bake sale, raffles with family fun prizes, and Sasquash will be there.

Lilly said funds from the block party will go toward fire company projects, such as a $1.3 million pumper, another vehicle reaching its life expectancy, as well as equipment replacement/purchases.

“We would be nothing without the public, because without anyone to patronize you, you would not be able to raise funds,” she said. “I thank them for supporting us for every event we have, and we appreciate it.”
