Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor Mark Schweiker visited Jim Thorpe yesterday, bringing news that a $393,341 grant has been awarded the community to assist it in boosting tourism in the county seat community.

Schweiker said the funding will be made available through the state’s Communities Opportunity program and is aimed at improving the infrastructure on historic Race Street in Jim Thorpe and adding 200 spaces to the Carbon County parking lot adjacent to the train station.

The grant is essential to assist the Carbon County Redevelopment Authority in its efforts to make economic progress in the community, said Phyllis Bolton, authority director.
