Weissport to host farmers market, yard sale

The Weissport Event Committee is planning another yard sale/farmers market for Saturday, July 25, from 8 a.m. to noon.

“The June 27th sale didn’t do well because of all the rain,” committee member Jennifer Ketchledge said. “We had 23 vendors scheduled (but) only five were able to make it.”

The vendors will be set up around the perimeter of the park, away from the sections were trees were damaged during the July 3 storms.

Parade thank you

In other business last week, Dr. Keith Jake Boyer thanked the Weissport Borough Council for members’ help at the Weissport America250 Parade held Saturday.

“Thank you Cheryl (Miller), Bill (Hartzell), Arlie (Moyer), Jennifer (Ketchledge), Jody (Sonon) and Jody’s son for your wonderful cooperation. We couldn’t have done it without you. I just want to formally thank you. It was just amazing.”

“We need to thank you for putting that together,” Weissport Mayor Jody Sonon replied. “You did an awesome job!”

Levee grant

Arland Moyer signed an agreement with the state Department of Environmental Protection for a grant to cover Weissport Borough’s share of additional repairs to the levee. The Federal Emergency Management Agency advised of additional work to the levee along Weissport and the Lehigh River.

“Some additional funding came down from the federal government, and the borough is responsible for 20% of the cost. DEP provided the match from state funds,” Engineer Mike Muffley said.

The actual amount of the grant was not immediately available.
