Carbon begins open space grant application round

Carbon County is kicking off its Open Space Grant Program’s Fall 2026 Grant Round with an assembly at 10 a.m. on July 22 at the Koch-Wildoner Pavilion at Mauch Chunk Lake Park.

The Open Space Grant Program was made possible by the 83% of county voters who approved the open space bond referendum in 2022.

Carbon County accepted its first applications in the fall of 2024. In just two years, the program has helped preserve over 1,200 acres.

Speakers during the event include some of the stakeholders in the program and how this benefits the county.

This event is free and open to the public; however registration is required.

To register, visit https://carboncounty.rja.revize.com/forms/14914.

The Open Space Grant Program can provide funding to municipalities and prequalified land trust organizations to preserve land that protects wildlife habitat, water resources, and forests. Land trust organizations and Carbon County municipalities are the only eligible applicants to apply for funding from the program.

The application is available online at www.carboncountypa.gov/openspace.

The 2026 Fall Grant Round will remain open until 4 p.m. on Sept. 30.
