Coaldale will celebrate its 200th anniversary next year.
To mark the event, the borough is planning to hold festivities on July 24, 2027.
“Right now it’s just in the process” of planning, council President Rose Hoben said.
She’s hoping that a committee can meet at borough hall at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month.
“Just to get some ideas — nothing elaborate, something simple,” she said. “But let’s just try to have a little pride for our 200th anniversary.”
Hoban noted that a meeting was held recently with a few in attendance. She would like to get more involved.
She also noted that all are invited to participate in upcoming community yard sales. They are scheduled for Aug. 1 and 2; Aug. 29 and 30, and Sept. 26 and 27.
In keeping with special events, the Coaldale Community Crime Watch will hold its annual National Night Out from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 4 in the area behind the Coaldale Fire Company. In the event of rain, it will be held inside the Coaldale Complex. Area nonprofit organizations are invited to participate.
