Bowmanstown block party celebrates America 250

Bowmanstown held its celebration of America 250 with a block party from 1 to 9 p.m. on Saturday on the grounds of the Bowmanstown Fire Company on Lime Street.

The block party was hosted by the Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company, Bowmanstown/Parryville Lions Club, and Bowmanstown Area Residents Connected.

Michael Spairana, the fire chief of the Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company, gave an idea of what people could expect.

“We have three bands here from 1 to 9, and a band downstairs after 9 p.m.,” Spairana said. “We have lots of stuff for the kids; we have the Corn Hole Tournament, food downstairs, and plenty of drinks.”

The three bands scheduled to play were Troubled Wine, Big Bone Daddy, and Mixx Bagg.

There was bingo in the fire hall, and a large basket auction in the garage. Carolyn Yaroszeufsky from Franklin Township and Connie Serfass from Lehighton were among the many looking over the prizes in the basket auction.

“I like playing (the basket auction) all the time,” Yaroszuefski said. “My grandson’s a firefighter here, so we like to support this cause.”

There was plenty of food to meet all kinds of tastes. Food vendors were set up on Lime Street in front of the fire company. Lorahs’ featured various shrimp and chicken baskets, salads, burgers, sides, and desserts.

Grumpy’s Barbecue Roadhouse had their food truck, offering chicken, beef, brisket barbecue plus sides like french fries and pierogies. Phil’s French Fries and Woods Ice Cream had stands, and the Bowmanstown/Parryville Lions Club had their food stand set up, too.

“All the money raised will be split between three organizations,” Chief Spairana explained. “The fire company, the Lions Club, and BARC.”
