Walnutport continues to tweak its playground ordinance.
Last month, borough council agreed to advertise a playground ordinance that states dogs, motorized scooters, motorized bicycles, roller blades and skateboard are prohibited at all times.
The matter came back up for discussion at Thursday’s council meeting after Councilwoman Nancy Treskot said there were some concerns expressed from the Walnutport Canal Association.
Treskot said they want to know how it would affect service dogs, as well as the time frame.
Council President Michael Gaston said problems typically occur during the evening hours.
“The damage and destruction happens after dark.” he said.
But borough police Chief Jason Nothstein noted that it also occurs in the daytime as well. “You need enforcement,” Nothstein said. “We can’t hold any type of prejudice.”
Treskot said she believes the motorized scooters and motorized bicycles at the Walnutport Canal are a safety issue.
Councilwoman Patrice Hunsicker said she believes the section that pertains to the canal should be removed and handled separately.
The consensus of council was then to have one ordinance with two separate sections.
One section would state dogs, motorized scooters, motorized bicycles, roller blades and skateboard are prohibited at all times. The other section would pertain to the Walnutport Canal.
Ultimately, council tabled the matter.
