An Allentown man is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and causing a four-vehicle crash at 8:46 p.m. May 30 on Route 22 in Hanover Township that led to the death of an Allentown woman and injury to himself and several other people.
State police at Bethlehem said Miguel A. Saba Silva, 48, was driving a 1988 Ford F-150 pickup truck west on Route 22 and approaching a traffic backlog stemming from a previous crash.
The F-150 was traveling at a high rate of speed and Saba Silva was unable to stop in time, slamming into the rear of a 2013 Buick Verano driven by Donna M. Glazik, 63, of Allentown, who later went into cardiac arrest while being evaluated by emergency responders and was pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenberg campus.
Police said the force of the impact caused the Verano to rear-end a 2017 Subaru Outback driven by Mauwa Soumahoro, 23, of Tobyhanna, which then struck a 2012 Toyota Camry operated by Jaime A. Rojan Marroquin, 23, of Easton. Marroquin and two passengers were uninjured.
Police said Saba Silva was administered a portable breath test at the scene and a search warrant was executed for a medical blood test.
Those results showed he was under the influence to a degree he should not have been operating a motor vehicle at the time, police said.
Also injured were Soumahoro and her passenger, Bless J. Hadnott, 21, of Albrightsville.
